Villa Pefnos is located at Agios Dimitrios, close
to Agios Nikolaos on the Mani Peninsula of the Peloponnese. (see Local Area for details) We named the villa after the ancient Greek name for the location which was briefly described by Pausanias during his travels in about 200 A.D. He wrote,"There is a little isle offshore no bigger than a rock, which is also called Pefnos. The people of Thalamia say this is where the Dioskouroi (the heavenly twins, Castor and Pollux) were born, and I know Alkman says the same thing in a song. On this little island there are bronze statues of the Dioskouroi a foot high standing on the island in the open air. When the sea sweeps over the rock in winter it never moves them This is a wonderful thing and the ants here have a whiter colour than is usual." The statues have long disappeared but the rock is still there and still called Pefnos. |
The villa is a single storey house that was completed in 1999. It is built in local stone in the Maniat style and sits in its own olive grove, overlooking the sea - approx. 150 metres away. The villa is split into two separate apartments - Christos and Anezoula - and a small studio annex below Anezoula. |
Anezoula has a twin bedded bedroom, bathroom,
kitchen/dining room with ceiling fan and single sofa beds. It sleeps 2 – 4 people. To the front is a large terrace overlooking olive trees, while there is a smaller tiled sitting area, with mountain views, to the rear. Anezoula is fully air conditioned. It can also be taken with a small extra self contained studio, accommodating another two. The studio is not rented separately. |
